Wheeling Hospital
Wheeling, WV

Wheeling Hospital is a Catholic hospital which serves as a healing ministry, providing compassionate care to people of all faiths in a loving, spiritual environment. Wheeling Hospital's Schiffler Cancer Center became one of the first TELESYNERGY® pilot systems as part of the Partnerships in Science(TM) Program in October, 2001. Wheeling Hospital was the first TELESYNERGY® system to have an adjacent patient exam room and an audio/video connection to an auditorium, allowing the system to be used for lectures.

Wheeling Hospital has become a regional referral hospital for cancer cases, and patients from 26 states and four foreign countries have been treated at the Schiffler Cancer Center. The Schiffler Cancer Center is the only Center in the region using high dose rate brachytherapy for the treatment of prostate, lung, esophageal, cervical, endometrium, vaginal, and gastrointestinal cancers on an out-patient basis. The Schiffler Cancer Center is one of eight national members of the Prostate Brachytherapy Review Group (PBRG).

Wheeling Hospital is the regional leader in transperineal ultrasound guided conformal prostatic brachytherapy, or radiation treatment of prostate cancer through prostate implants. The Cancer Center has also established the only comprehensive multi-disciplinary gynecologic oncology clinic in the Ohio Valley. The treatment facility is equipped with high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy which significantly improves the accuracy and patient ease of gynecologic brachytherapy.
